Zero Trust in practice: a 90-day starting plan

Zero Trust is a journey, not a product. Here is a pragmatic first 90 days.

“Never trust, always verify” sounds simple; implementing it is not. A phased plan keeps progress visible.

Days 1–30: visibility

  • Inventory users, devices, applications and data flows.
  • Enforce MFA for all remote and privileged access.
  • Identify crown-jewel systems.

Days 31–60: control

  • Introduce conditional access based on device health.
  • Segment the network around critical systems.
  • Deploy privileged access management for admins.

Days 61–90: monitor & improve

  • Feed identity, endpoint and firewall logs into the SIEM.
  • Define incident playbooks and run a tabletop exercise.
  • Map controls to NCA ECC or ISO 27001 for reporting.
